Youth Day Celebration (Friday)

2014 Youth Day Celebrations @ SST - “Dress and Pledge”
Date: 4 July 2014

Youth Day is a special day celebrated by many countries in the world to appreciate the youths’ achievement in each country. It is also celebrated to promote the contribution of young people to their countries’ development. In Singapore, Youth Day is celebrated on first Sunday of July every year. This year we will celebrate Youth Day in Singapore on 6 July 2014 (Sunday).

Theme
In SST, we will celebrate Youth Day on 4 July 2014(Friday). The theme for the day is “Dress and Pledge”. Through the events planned, we hope to raise awareness about less fortunate youths, celebrate the different talents of the youths in SST and to empower SST students to contribute to the community.photo1.jpg

Momento
Each student will be given a memento as part of the celebrations. The memento is a paper clip as shown on the right.

Attire
Students are encouraged to come dressed in their home clothes or as Cosplay characters. Attire should still adhere to the fundamental philosophy of SST Student Code of Conduct. Hence, revealing clothes and clothes with objectionable prints should not be worn. Students are required to wear covered shoes. Students who do not wish to come in home clothes or Cosplay costumes can still choose to come in full school uniform.

While students have fun dressing up and celebrating, they will also take time out to consider the less fortunate. The day will begin the day with a Youth Day Appeal where students and staff members are encouraged to contribute by way of monetary donations. Every amount contributed is important and all donations will be matched $1-to-$1 by the Government under the Care & Share Movement.

Photo-Booth Fund Raising Event
PSB has initiated a Photo-booth fund raising event to support the donation drive for Community Chest. Photo Booths will be set up during the Lower Secondary and Upper Secondary recesses where students can take photographs with their friends and staff members. The photo booth, which will be setup in the Atrium is equipped with props and a backdrop. There will also be 2 photographers moving around in the canteen to take photos. The cost price of each polaroid is $1.30. Students are encouraged to pay more than the $1.30 for a worthy cause as all the money earned will be donated to the Community Chest.

Inter-House Cosplay Challenge and SST Talent Show Case
To wrap up the celebrations for the day, there will be an Inter-House Cosplay Challenge as well as the SST Talent Show Case during assembly.
